Board Meeting Minutes September 20, 2020

IMIYA BOARD MEETING       

Sunday September 20, 2020

MINUTES

  • Budget
    • Darren presentation budget 2-16-2019
      • pre-covid, our yearly income mostly comes from member dues around $6300/ year
      • Expenses each year (t shirts and scholarships) come out to around $6750 annually
        • Scholarship funding has fluctuated from 2016-2019
      • come 2022, what do we want our normal expenses and normal income to be? Make decisions on what to spend in the remainder of 2020 and 2021
      • Currently around $22,000 in bank account at this time
      • Mandy: membership has held relatively steady from 2019-2020
      • Decisions to make
        • make t shirts every other year rather than annually
      • Darren made a motion to allow Scholarship Committee to allocate funds to any of the 5 Scholarship/Grant Categories from within the larger umbrella Scholarship fund. Dana seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
    • Scholarships and grants awarded: Dana made a motion to disburse funds to the following applicants (Deanna, YCD, Deb B., Avery K.). Sage seconded the motion. All voted in favor.
      • Class Pack: Deanna ($100)
      • Community Outreach Grants
        • YCD – yoga in Spanish, Korean programs ($1250)
        • Deb B. – Yoga for Cancer class ($625)
        • Avery K. – Queer/Trans Yoga and Reparations yoga programs ($1250)
        • Sage will get in touch with grant/scholarship recipients about receiving their funds and share their stories on the website
      • Darren made a motion to allow the scholarship committee to send out class Pack funds up to the limit of what we’ve allocated ($1000 in $100 increments) The scholarship committee can approve and disburse these funds without approval from the full board. Josh seconded the motion. All voted in favor.
    • New Grant: Building Bridges Grant to build bridges between Iyengar Yoga and wider Yoga Alliance community: funds go to exclusively BIPOC teachers (proposal: $1200 set to grant fund with 4, $300 grants)
  • Antiracism Education
    • Check out the website! It is looking great! imiya.org
    • Let’s commit as a Board to attend IYNAUS’s DEIJ trainings: Next one October 24, 2020
    • Paige says of IYNAUS: We are making progress on the organizational assessment for DEIJ…we have a tentative goal to get something out by the end of October. We have a team of people designing questions as well as a professional who has a set of questions and a structure that she has used. 
    • direct funds locally through scholarships/grants rather than to trainer? (which would be approximately $5000 investment annually)
    • Paige and Sage are working together to get a resource list of BIPOC Iyengar Teachers on the website
  • Expiring Board Member Roles
    • Regional Rep: Paige’s term is over Nov 1!
    • President: Josh: complete term through this year
    • Vice President: Brad is in his third year and will complete his term soon as well
    • Secretary: Sage’s two year term will end at the end of this year
    • Treasurer: Darren is happy to stick around for another year or so to do financials and reports
    • Dana will reach out to Paige about expiring board member roles
    • Sage will connect with folks individually through membership email list about filling Board Member roles

For future meetings:

  • Mission Statement
    • Dana’s proposal
  • Monthly antiracism study groups: begin with board members and invite general membership later on
  • Create Social Media Plan
