IMIYA BOARD MEETING

AGENDA

  1. BOARD
  2. The board voted (via email prior to this meeting) unanimously to elect Mandy Coates for the Scholarship position
  3. Bylaws were sent to all board members to review
  4. Quick Recap of December Board Meeting as 3 board members were not present

Discussion on the current $800 scholarships, the committee will finalized their recommendations no later than Jan 2 so the board can vote during January meeting

Theresa submitted Samachar update for our region and an article from Trishka Lemos (Iyengar Yoga Aspen) will be featured in either Samachar or another Iyengar publication in February

       2)SCHOLARSHIP (MANDY)

The board spent most of tonight’s meeting discussing the candidates identified and recommended by the scholarship committee. Voting was completed. Mandy is working on letter to send to each of the 4 scholarship recipients which will include details regarding reporting of how funds are used. Prior to recipients receiving this letter Mandy will send emails in the coming days to each person congratulating them.

  • New committee/application/approach for next round of applicants – discuss in February
  • Continuing Education: Events/News ahead – IMIYA was approached by the Marketing Associate with Artemis Yoga in Waterton, MA regarding a series of workshops called Yoga and Aging. She asked if IMIYA would be interested in sharing with our membership and that Artemis Yoga could provide social media materials. The series kicks off with a free panel discussion on Sunday, January 23rd. The board felt that given tonight’s meeting is just days away from the first session it would be fastest to create a Facebook post. Mandy agreed to be responsible for making the post.                                             

           3)TREASURER (Darren)

  • Payment to Tracy who created graphics for the $800 scholarship promotion
  • Tax card was received by Darren and looks to be a simple procedure to file the tax return. April 15 deadline
  • Jean, do you have any questions? No She will review the bylaws regarding position of Treasurer
  • Monthly financial record in motion QB
  • Investment of funds in 2022 – Now that IMIYA is a 5013c there might be some opportunities to invest some monies however given the drop in membership during the pandemic it might be best to wait until membership numbers increase again and there’s more money in the bank
  • Venmo would be beneficial for transferring funds, our current bank Wells Fargo, supports Venmo but limits transactions to other Wells Fargo customers and certain other banks.  This is something the board will continue to discuss.

            4) MEMBERSHIP (TBD)

  • Member Drive: New ideas needed
    • Online Drive in April with date TBD, Highlight Senior Teacher…
    • Kansas/Nebraska members (Joanne found)
    • Expired CIYT Memberships (Theresa) – A woman contacted Theresa in hopes she could offer guidance and or assistance about how to get her certification current. Theresa referred her to Gary Reitze at YCD as he has mentored others in the past

             5) YOGA AND EQUITY (Joanne)

  • Updated Statement that aligns with IYNAUS Equity training     
  • IMIYA website Yoga & Equity Resources page: Could use a significant refresh, ideas include posting summaries of the Saturday monthly Equity series offered by IYNAUS, also a look and cleanup of the books currently listed on the page (many have been there for 2yrs), the desire is to create vitality to the page to draw people to read it
  • Upcoming Yoga & Equity Symposium: Saturday 1/22 @ 12:30 MST Topic is “Embodied Action- Confronting Racism as an Inner Practice”                                         

              6) WEBSITE (Rebecca)

  • Ideas for working with Tracy and marketing – discuss in February
  • Any other thoughts

              7) OUTREACH/COMMUNICATION (Cecilia)

  • Upcoming Quarterly Regional Meetings via Basecamp
  • New communication ideas for web page/ ie:  summary of upcoming monthly Aging workshop Feb-May
  • SAMACHAR regional update Theresa submitted for February issue

                 8) OTHER

  • IMIYA FRIENDS
  • Studio News… What studios have changed in our region as of now?
  • Take down or keep up Yoga Equity Library / vote next meeting
  • New member for Mandy’s Membership Position still needed.  Ideas?  Theresa will share results of this month.

Mission Statement: “The Intermountain BKS Iyengar Yoga Association is committed to serve the Iyengar yoga community, by offering both educational and financial resources to current Iyengar yoga teachers, Iyengar yoga students and the wider yoga community.”
