Iyengar Yoga
The system of yoga known as Iyengar Yoga was created and developed by Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar. His approach to yoga is based on the traditional eight limbs of yoga taught over 2500 years ago by the sage Patanjali. Iyengar Yoga is a powerful and sophisticated discipline that can be practiced at all stages of life. Its benefits are far-reaching and can assist the practitioner in all aspects of daily life.

InterMountain Iyengar Yoga Association
The Intermountain Iyengar Yoga Association (IMIYA) was established as one of 12 independent, regional branches of the Iyengar National Association (IYNAUS). Regional associations serve the students in their geographical areas with regular communications, opportunities for study in the region, access to scholarships, and more. IMIYA includes Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.
All regional associations seek to educate the public on the art, science and philosophy of yoga taught by B.K.S. Iyengar and his family. Each regional association nominates a regional representative to sit on the IYNAUS Board of Directors. The Pune Constitution, a guide approved by Mr. Iyengar for the governance of associations worldwide, calls for this representative form of governance.
Our organization is formed to perform the following primary functions:
- Public Education To educate the public about the teachings of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar and to maintain the teaching standards set by him.
- Service To find and implement ways to better serve the practitioners and teachers of yoga.
- Scholarships and Outreach To support those who seek to teach or learn yoga
- Newsletter To provide regular communications and share information about our region
- Exchange of Culture To facilitate and expedite communication between B.K.S. Iyengar and his United States students and foster a fruitful East-West cultural exchange, bringing Western culture, people, ideas and knowledge to the East and vice-versa, so that a more complete understanding may develop among the many diverse cultures of each.
- Research To foster medical research and to exchange research findings on Yoga related issues.
- Library To establish a reference library and maintain archives of pertinent materials written by or about B.K.S. Iyengar, including audio tapes, video tapes, photographs and other appropriate items.
